FOUNDATION IN MANUAL THERAPY
MASTERCLASS

FOUNDATIONS IN MANUAL THERAPY:
VOICE AND SWALLOWING, WALT FRITZ, PT

OVERVIEW

This dynamic two-day, hands-on seminar will provide the speechlanguage pathologist/therapist, vocal coach, physiotherapist, massage therapist, occupational therapist, and ENT with interest in pathology/ dysfunction in the upper thorax and neck regions, a solid grounding in the use of manual therapies for the treatment of voice and swallowingrelated disorders. We will first review pertinent evidence and establish a sound scientific narrative for the effects of this work. Unlike much manual therapy training, where there is an artificial emphasis on tissuespecific beliefs, Walt Fritz’s approach is one of giving higher acknowledgment to patient input in all aspects of the treatment process.

He teaches from the basis of plausible, neurologically-informed narratives of impact. You will then spend the majority of the seminar in closely supervised hands-on learning of not only manual therapy skills, but also of a patient-led model of interviewing, evaluation, and treatment

Founder of the Voice Care Centre, Stephen is a hybrid healthcare practitioner who combines Manual Therapy, Medical Acupuncture, Voice Pedagogy, Spinal Manipulation, and Myofascial Release. Fascinated by divisions between the various forms of evidence based interventions, alternative medicines and placebo mechanisms, Stephen is always seeking to meld the allopathic with the naturopathic for the highest possible clinical efficacy.

Stephen’s vocal coaching has taken him as far as China and his therapeutic work is in demand across Europe for private manual therapy/ voice clinics, seminars and workshops at several international conferences and events. The therapeutic education Stephen delivers is centred around somatosensory and neuromuscular systems, professing that “no pain, no gain” is now almost wholly unsupported by current pain science. Stephen has also been instrumental in the grass roots education of Vocal Massage to massage therapists and vocal coaches which was a treatment modality once reserved only for Physiotherapists, Speech Therapists and Osteopaths.
